The village Guta is the last settlement on the road to Gorgany, the rocky Carpathians, which is surrounded by mountains. The road ends right here. There is only a forest and mountain peaks further.
Guta is situated 35 kilometers from the regional center Bogorodchany, in the upper stream of the river Bystrytsya Solotvynska.
The name of the village comes from the local name of melting furnace which in Ukrainian is called “guta”. In such “gutas” glass or metal was melted.
Guta had been a remote and not well-known village before the former president L.Kuchma came there. It was the end of the mountain road. There was no road further Guta.
After the president’s residence “Syniogora” was built here in 2001, based on the former sanatorium, the situation changed for the better. Mobile connection has appeared. The total area of the residence is 5 thousand square meters. On its territory there is a four-storey villa, a lake, a helipad, a basement with a swimming pool and a jacuzzi, three-storey library with galleries, gutsul and hunting buildings. There is a ski trail with a lift created on one of the nearby slopes.
In 2007 French actor Gerard Depardieu came to “Syniogora” to celebrate Christmas with V. Yushchenko and his family.
From Guta or if to be more precise from Old Guta start one or a few- days routes to the mountain valleys, passes, steep Gorgany peaks and ranges or the same mountain villages of the neighboring Ivano-Frankivsk and Transcarpathian regions. Besides this is a place for a very calm and quiet rest. There are a lot of berries and mushrooms in the local forests. For the winter rest you can find a ski resort in the sanatorium “Syniogora”.
You can get to this village by a bus from Ivano-Frankivsk or from Bogorodchany. Schedules and routes change very often, that’s why it is better not to count on the last bus.
Hiking routes near Guta run along the banks of the Bystrytsya and getting higher and higher pass into the mountain trails. These sometimes badly cleared trails, which are called “chypashi” by local people lead to the highest peaks of Gorgany: Syvulya (1818,1836m), Igrovets (1804m), Vysoka (1803) and Serednya (1638).
Apart from this the tourists may be interested in tracts near Guta: Olenytsya, Kinskiy Vogon, Perekhody, Pid Zaplata, Mezheriky and others.
The most popular hiking route is climbing the peaks of Syvulya (1818) and Lopushna (1836), that are the highest peaks of Gorgany. These grey and covered with stones peaks spread steeply to the hundreds of meters and pass into destroyed by avalanches and windfalls forest and you feel as if you got into prehistorical period.
